The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams created the radio script in 1977. The initial program was recorded and broadcast in 1978, along with a Christmas special. Additional episodes were developed and broadcast in 1980. These initial episodes were adapted to be the books The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
