The term "public domain" encompasses those materials that are not protected by intellectual property laws such as copyright, trademark, or patent laws. No individual owns these works. They are owned by the public and can be used without obtaining permission and without citing the original author. Copyright protection does not cover the titles of books or movies, nor does it protect facts, ideas, or theories.
